HAMILTON, ONTARIO-Adolescent girls in Canadian Catholic high schools may be recruited under false pretenses to participate in studies on the effects of Prozac on symptoms of premenstrual syndrome.
The Hamilton Catholic school board has allowed Dr. Meir Steiner, an expert on PMS, mood disorders and women’s health, to distribute a questionnaire to high school girls as part of his research on PMS. But the survey, which asks for a name and contact information, is designed to help Steiner find subjects for a study funded by Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical giant and maker of Prozac.
